What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is based on the belief that you must approach the body as one whole unit, working towards ensuring that all the parts function together in their most natural position and state. The Osteopathic practice uses non-invasive, hands-on techniques to correct the body, enabling it to return to its original functioning state. Treatment is non-manipulative and very gentle in nature, allowing patients to feel comfortable and preventing any risk of damage. Osteopathy focuses on freeing the body from restriction, strengthening the musculoskeletal system and reinforcing its relationship with the organs, and improving the nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems.

Accurate diagnosis is not just a crucial first step in treatment; for an Osteopath, this is a major part of their philosophy of medicine. Osteopaths often work together with other practitioners, such as massage therapists, physiotherapists, and GPs, in order to attain an accurate diagnosis and speed up the healing process of the patient. Some of the main conditions treated are back pain, neck pain, headaches, issues with peripheral joints (shoulders, knees, ankles), tendinitis and muscle strains, and well as pain management.
